Sita Nyame, E.I.T
Ph.D. Candidate
Civil and Environmental Engineering
My name is Sita Baaba Nyame, and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at the University of Connecticut (UConn), under the mentorship of Dr. Diego Cerrai. My dissertation research focuses on understanding the effects of severe weather conditions on the electric transmission power system and wildfire ignitions, using predictive analytics to create a more reliable and resilient grid. I am passionate about finding innovative solutions to help mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events on our energy infrastructure, especially as climate change continues to pose new challenges.
In addition to my academic work, I serve as a Global Operations Manager at the Office of Global Affairs at UConn, where I help promote international collaboration and manage global initiatives within the university. My academic background includes degrees in Cultural Anthropology and Environmental Engineering, both from UConn, and I have certifications in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) and Engineering in Training (E.I.T.) from the State of Connecticut.
Outside of my academic and professional roles, I am committed to fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and innovation within my community. I’ve been fortunate to participate in leadership programs like the American Meteorological Society Early Career Leadership Academy (AMS ECLA) and the John Lof Leadership Academy (JLLA), where I continue to build my leadership skills and learn how to make a greater impact in both my field and my community.
